Pratibha Syntex & Fairtrade in India distribute sewing machines and FDs
One of the employees, Baliram Savle, who received a fixed deposit for his child’s education, expressed his gratitude to management and Fairtrade for letting his children dream big.
“The sewing machine will open new avenues of income. In the evening, I will earn extra money doing sewing work,” said fellow associate Kali Dodve, who had opted for the sewing machine.
Pratibha Syntex, a vertically integrated manufacturer of knitted textile products, in association with Fairtrade, recently distributed sewing machines and fixed deposits to its 3,024 employees. The initiative, backed by elite brands like Patagonia, Prana and Pact, aims to bring about visible change in the overall livelihoods of grassroots employees.
“We are extremely grateful for the initiative of Fairtrade and our partner brands. Since 2014, our associates have benefited from the program and it is satisfying to see their progress over the years,” HS Jha, Vice President Human Resources, Pratibha Syntex Ltd, said in a statement.
Fairtrade is one of the most trusted sustainable trade standards in the world that transfers wealth to farmers and workers in developing countries by guaranteeing them decent income and work.
Notably, Pratibha Syntex has been organizing the Fairtrade Premium program since 2014. Over the years, raincoats, water purifier, blender grinder, kitchen utensils, refrigerator, washing machine and other household appliances have been presented to the partners.
