Gallery - Wish You Were Here... - 2006

The Association of Pacific Northwest Quilters is proud to present our traveling exhibit of 46 quilts based on the theme "Wish You Were Here...". The exhibit highlights the imaginative potential of the quilt as an art medium, including expressions and construction techniques of unlimited variety.

Participants were asked to create a "picture postcard" in fabric, featuring real or imagined people, places, things, events or ideas. Quilters used an intriguing mix of images, techniques and styles — from traditional to contemporary — in their interpretation of the theme. The results ranged from beautiful to thought-provoking to hilarious, and will give viewers a unique opportunity to enjoy and appreciate the best in contemporary quilt art.

The quiltmakers for this invitational exhibition were invited randomly, based on membership in APNQ, with geographic representation. No jurying was done. The quilters invited to create 24" by 36" works for this project practice their art in the Pacific Northwest and western Canada. As members of the Association of Pacific Northwest Quilters, each has assisted the organization in the realization of its mission: the promotion of quilters and quiltmaking in the Northwest. This is the Association's fifth traveling exhibit.

This project was sponsored by the Association of Pacific Northwest Quilters and coordinated by Judy Dafoe Hopkins and Gwen Brustad.
