Gallery - The Elements: Earth, Wind, Fire, & Chocolate - 1998
|
The first traveling exhibit sponsored by APNQ, developed for Quiltfest 1998, "The Elements" launched a wonderful tradition for APNQ. Fifty three quiltmakers were invited to create quilts which reflected the whimsical theme "The Elements: Earth, Wind, Fire & Chocolate," paying homage to the oft-held opinion of quilters that chocolate is indeed a basic element. The quiltmakers for this invitational exhibition were randomly selected based only on membership in APNQ. Skill level was not a criterion, and no jurying was done. Artistic expressions and construction techniques of unlimited variety were encouraged within the size limitation of 24 inches by 36 inches. This exhibit was curated by Melody Crust and Heather W. Tewell. Their original objective was to develop a display of quilts which would give recognition to individual quiltmakers from the Pacific Northwest and western Canada and raise awareness of the quality and variety of quiltmaking in the region. Auctioned in 1998 to benefit APNQ. Photos by Mark Frey. |
